How To Watch Latin American Netflix In The USAIf you live in the United States and you’re looking for Spanish or Portuguese language TV shows and movies then this is guide for you.

With one simple trick you can turn your current US Netflix into the Latin American version of Netflix.

This will reveal an amazing library of Spanish programming as well as North American shows that are sub-titled in Spanish which is great for practicing your Spanish reading while watching a show.

This tick will work no matter where you live in the world, the steps are the same so just follow along and you’ll be accessing the Latin American version of Netflix in no time at all!

Step #1: Get HMA

HMA is a truly ingenious piece of software. What HMA does is it re directs your Internet connection through one of their servers in Latin America which allows your computer to virtually reside in that country.

The reason you want to be able to virtually reside in a Latin American country is because Netflix shows you different content options based on your geographical location.

Just like how British residents want to be able to access the US Version of Netflix in the UK there are lots of reasons why you would want the Latin American Version of Netflix when you’re actually living in the United States.

Step #2: Virtually Reside in Chile

The next step is to download HMA so you can set it up to allow you to teleport your computer all the way down to Santiago, Chile where the Latin American version of Netflix is the norm.

After you have set up your HMA account, you will want to navigate over to the download page and select the version of HMA you need (PC, Mac or Linux).

Download HMA For Latin American NetfliX

After you download this light weight software to your computer you’re going to want to change a grand total of one setting.  This is the setting where you tell HMA to connect to their server in Chile.  Here is what that will look like:

That’s it, you’re all set up and ready to go onto step 3 (which is the most fun of them all).

Step #3: Watch Latin American Netflix In The USA

After HMA has connected to it’s server in Chile (you can use any one of their servers in Latin America by the way) you will have a very different Netflix experience.

As a side note, if you want to verify that you’re actually virtually residing in the new location you can click the “verify new IP address” button on the HMA dashboard.

Check Your IP Location

A browser will open up and you will see that you in fact located in Santiago, Chile and they even show you on a map!

Now that you have verified your new location in Latin America you can simple log into your current Netflix account.

Netflix in Latin America

Your Netflix account may or may not be in Spanish, but either way you can change the language by using the little drop down beside the login button

I am going to change the default language back to English for the rest of this guide since my Spanish is very rusty.

Even on the home page you will see that there are already Spanish titles showing up.

Some Spanish Shows

But this wouldn’t be enough to make following this guide worth it so I’m happy to report that you have just seen the tip of the iceberg!

If you click on “TV Shows” a new page with load with just TV shows.  Then if you click on “TV Shows” again a new drop down will appear that’s called “subgenres”.

TV Shows Subgenres

Go ahead and click on that and then click on the “Latin American TV Shows” subgenre where you will now see all of the TV shows that are part of the large Latin American Netflix library.

Latin American Netflix TV

Another way to see even more titles in Spanish is to click on the genres link in the navigation bar across the top of the page.  It will give you the option to click “Latin American.”  By doing so you will be taken to all of the Latin American programming that Netflix has to offer.

Once you are in the “Latin American” section you can click on it again to reveal the hidden subgenres which are as follows:

  • Argentinian Movies
  • Brazilian Movies
  • Latin American Comedies
  • Latin American Documentaries
  • Latin American Dramas
  • Latin American TV Shows
  • Mexican Movies

Latin American Subgenres

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for Spanish and Portuguese language programming in the USA this is an amazing way turn get the Latin American Version of Netflix in the USA.  Don’t forget that you need HMA to make all of this happen.  It’s worth every single penny.

If you have found this guide on how to get the Latin American Netflix in the USA helpful please “Like” it and share it with your friends.  Thanks!

I recently joined a Spanish club to try to refresh my memory as it’s been years since I’ve spoken much Spanish. I was trying to find some Spanish movies to watch before my trip to Mexico and I’m very glad that I found this guide and am now watching Latin American Netflix here in the United States.

Brent August 25, 2013 at 4:39 pm

Glad you are able to use HMA to watch Latin American Netflix in the USA to brush up on your Spanish before your trip!

I am always trying to find Spanish shows to watch and now that I have hma and followed this guide I have more than I could ever watch. Thanks!

Brent April 22, 2013 at 5:36 pm

I’m so glad that this helped you 🙂

Alejo July 7, 2013 at 10:38 am

Hi Brent I hope you can help me, I did everything you said and It didn’t work!! 🙁 Every time I login from Mexico Argentina etc with my USA account I got this messege:

Watching Instantly Is Not Currently Available For Your Account

Unfortunately your account is restricted to streaming only within the 50 United States and its territories.

You may still access your account, but you will not be able to play any title.

So ethier this don’t work any more or what Im I doing wrong?? can you help me??

Brent July 7, 2013 at 6:18 pm

Alejo, just ignore the message and try to watch the program you’re looking to watch. From my testing, the warning is displayed but it doesn’t do anything to stop you from actually streaming.

Give it a try and let me know if it works for you too.

alan July 14, 2013 at 11:37 pm

Alejo, i can confirm you cannot watch latin american netflix on desktop from inside the US, but it works from the mobile app if you run your connection through a latin american vpn server.

Brent July 15, 2013 at 4:21 pm

Alan, I’m not sure why you’re not able to watch on your desktop as we are able to watch Latin American Netflix on our desktop/laptop computer after we have turned HMA on and have connected to a South American HMA server location.

A notice does pop up saying that you cannot stream from outside of the 50 states but if you close the note and go to watch a show it does not stop us from watching shows on Latin American Netflix.

William July 26, 2013 at 12:43 am

I can confirm that I got this working from Denver. I got the warning saying that I could not stream from outside of the USA but, as Brent recommended, I ignored that and went to watch some shows and it worked!

Brent August 25, 2013 at 4:38 pm

Glad you got it working! Thanks so much for letting us all know.

Are subtitles shown as well?

Brent August 25, 2013 at 4:37 pm

Yes, you can turn on the subtitles 🙂 Thanks for the comment!

Can this work from an ipad, iphone, or Xbox?

Brent October 27, 2013 at 11:40 am

Yes! You can download the HMA iOS app from the app store which allows you to set up HMA on your iPhone or iPad in just a couple taps of your finger!

To set up an Xbox you will need a DD-WRT enabled router which allows you to set up HMA on the router and then everything that is connected to that router will be virtually residing in the USA.

I’m going to Mexico this summer and have been working on my conversational Spanish for the past few months. Being able to watch the Spanish language programming on Netflix from here in Utah has been a huge help for me. I think that I’ll be ready for my trip this summer and will finally be able to say more than “where its the bathroom” and “can I have a beer please”.

Brent December 27, 2013 at 10:24 pm

Haha! Maybe I should start watching Spanish language programming on Latin American Netflix from Canada so too can expand my vocabulary beyond “beer please” and “where’s the bathroom”.

I’m glad to hear that HMA is helping you. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment.

Does this only work on the computer; or will it also work on a TV that is on the network?

Brent March 4, 2014 at 9:41 pm

As long as you have HMA set up on a DD-WRT enabled router it should work. Anything that is behind the router will be virtually residing in the Latin America.

Jess January 23, 2014 at 12:01 am

Does it work if I want to watch it from my Roku?

Brent March 4, 2014 at 9:43 pm

Yes, this will work on a Roku. You will need to have a DD-WRT enabled router where you will install HMA. Then simply connect your Roku to that router or the wifi network and it too will be virtually residing in the Latin America.

Victor February 13, 2014 at 11:17 pm

Does anyone know if u can do this on a roku? Or have the software on a USB and then connect it to a roku?

Brent March 4, 2014 at 9:44 pm

Victor, thanks for reading and leaving a comment. Yes, see the comment above this one to see how to get your Roku all set up.

Freddy March 3, 2014 at 1:54 am

To do this on a ps4 what do I need? I have a SURFboard extreme wireless cable modem & gigabit router

Brent March 4, 2014 at 9:44 pm

A DD-WRT enabled router with HMA installed should get this wroking on your PS4.

LIDA March 4, 2014 at 5:06 pm

Hello Brent, If I make the change will I still have all the shows that I currently have in North America?

Brent March 4, 2014 at 9:45 pm

You can turn HMA on and off meaning that you can access both Latin American Netflix, your local Netflix as well as other Netflix versions from around the world. Enjoy!

Art March 6, 2014 at 5:31 pm

I watch Netflx on a Samsumg Smart TV. And would like to have the Latin version. Do I have any options?

Brent March 6, 2014 at 5:53 pm

Art, thanks for reading and leaving a comment. You should be able to load up HMA on a DD-WRT enabled router then connect your Samsung Smart TV to that router or wifi network. When you have HMA on the router, everything that is connected to that router will be virtually residing in a Latin American country giving you access to the Latin American version of Netflix. Enjoy!

Bella April 4, 2014 at 4:25 am

Hola Brent! thanks for your guide above. quick question, I’m in Australia and tried the above just in case it could work for me as my mum would love to watch these shows (homesick). After I followed your instructions, I did get a few spanish shows appear on my netflix home page so i got excited…however, ‘Latin American TV Shows’ did not appear in the subgenres drop down menu…guessing this is because i’m not in the USA. Do you have a work around for this by any chance? 🙂

Brent April 28, 2014 at 12:57 am

The last time I tried this it was still working. It’s possible that Netflix isn’t using that navigation menu anymore. I’ll look into this further and let you know. Thanks for your comment.

Chris September 12, 2014 at 2:39 am

Okay! This is soooooo freaking cool! Thx to who ever got this to work! I did it all from my iPhone 5 I live in USA and my parents they always want to watch movies in Spanish, also I want the kids to learn Spanish as a second language. Jesus September 25, 2014 at 10:23 am

Thanks for this post. Does it work for ps3?

Brent April 21, 2015 at 12:33 am

Yes, you will need a DD-WRT enabled router where you will install HMA. Then your entire network will be virtually residing in Latin America.

Benjamin November 7, 2014 at 11:09 am

At the moment I have USA version, if I want to do this Spanish version will I lose the English-USA

Brent April 21, 2015 at 12:32 am

You can switch back and forth whenever you want. HMA has servers all over the world.
